Multi-strand Continuous Casting Machine for Steel Billets (multi-strand continuous casting)


Continuous steel casting process in which more than two strands of billets are cast simultaneously on one continuous casting machine. Also called combined continuous casting. It is a way to improve the production capacity of a single continuous caster, which is easy to match with large-capacity steelmaking furnaces. Billet multi-strand continuous casting can be divided into two types: one-machine multi-strand and multi-machine multi-strand.


Multi-machine multi-strand continuous casting machine for steel billets refers to the simultaneous production of multi-strand billets on one continuous casting machine by using the crystallizer vibration device and the tension leveler, etc., which are separately set for each strand. Continuous casting machines with 3 machines and 3 streams to 8 machines and 8 streams are widely used. They produce most of the world's square and round billets. During production, if one or two of the multi-streams are stopped for some reason, it is generally possible to continue pouring a can of molten steel. The multi-machine multi-stream continuous casting machine adopts a long tundish, and the tundish is provided with multiple nozzles with the same number of streams so that molten steel can be injected into the molds of each stream at the same time.


The molten steel flows over a long distance in the long tundish, and the temperature loss and the temperature difference between each flow are large. The temperature of the molten steel at the outermost nozzle is low, which is easy to block; the more the number of flows and the longer the tundish, the worse the situation is. In practice, the length of the tundish is limited (the 8-strand casting machine adopts double tundish), the inner shape of the tundish is rationalized, the tundish retaining wall is set, the flow direction of the molten steel is adjusted, and the temperature of the molten steel in each stream is basically the same, and the tundish is strengthened. Measures such as inner molten steel insulation and inner lining insulation can solve these shortcomings.


In 1982 and 1987, the Scun-thorpe Steel Works in the UK and the Capital Iron and Steel Corporation in China (Shougang) successively put into operation 8-machine 8-strand billet continuous casting machines, which were matched with 300t and 225t converters respectively. Representative of the multi-machine multi-strand continuous caster for the production of billets in large-capacity steelmaking furnaces. Shougang's 8-machine 8-strand continuous casting machine is fully arc-shaped, with an arc radius of 8m and a slab section (mm) of 100 × 100 ~ 180 × 180. It is poured with a double-nozzle 225t steel ladle and double tundish. The capacity of each tundish is 12t. Casting machine with flow spacing of 3×1100/2560/3×1100(mm), using fully enclosed pouring, mold electromagnetic stirring, micro process machine (VAX-11/750), and basic automation (MICON+MODI-CON-584 ) two-level computer control.


One-machine multi-strand continuous casting machine for steel billets refers to the simultaneous production of multi-strand billets on one continuous casting machine using a set of crystallizer vibration devices and a tension leveling device. One-machine multi-strand continuous casting machine can use partitions to separate a mold into multiple-strand slabs that can be poured at the same time, or multiple molds can be placed. When casting, the molten steel level of each stream should be kept the same. If one of the streams stops pouring for some reason, it may affect the normal casting of other streams. In practice, one-machine multi-strand continuous casting uses up to 4 strands. The production capacity and efficiency of this type of casting machine are quite limited, and it is not widely used in the world.
